Relief Organization for Sponsoring Refugees

History

Gar Gar settlements is a non-profit organization that started in December 2018 with the objective of resettlement and integration of refugees from East Africa. The organization assists with sponsoring refugees who are recognized by the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees as convention refugees but are waiting to be resettled.

Gar Gar settlement program was created as a result of the barriers faced by community members when attempting to seek support from other organizations that offer refugee services. East African communities in Canada have families, relatives, and friends who have been stranded in refugee camps since the civil war in Somalia over 25 years ago. The young generation was born and raised in refugee camps and is still waiting to be resettled by UNHCR.
